Testing…testing…everything seems to be in order.
Welcome everyone!
This is simply a test post to check if Hugo is working.
I have recently come back from blogging. And this is probably…. Gosh! I have forgotten how many times I have left and come back to blogging. The optimist in me is saying, that the fact that I have come back to blogging, means I have not yet given up. I could leave it again, but since I have a proper domain and Virtual Private Server (VPS) this time, I intend to blog seriously this time.
Okay, that is partially false, I had bought a domain previously, but I didn’t have a proper understanding of domains, and I had no access to VPS. I was using Github domains for hosting, but it’s kind of…meh. It’s like giving a car-enthusiast an automatic.
My History With Blogging
I started to think about my blogging days and I can retrace my steps. Here are all my previous attempts at blogging, chronologically
- Using Blogger by Google - I was still in high-school. I had to leave it due to my exams. To be honest, I didn’t understand blogging back then. I was just young and wanted my own online corner.
- Using Wordpress - I was probably in university at this time. This part of my memory is fuzzy regarding how I decided upon Wordpress. Maybe I just wanted to know why it was getting a lot of hype.
- Using static site #1 - I was doing my higher studies at this point and was slowly dipping my toes in FOSS, as in, I was slightly serious about technology now. I started using Hugo after hearing it from one of my friends.
- Using static site #2 - Covid happened and I needed a hobby to kill the time.
I bought a proper domain and decided to use Mkdocs instead of Hugo. It was well-made and I actually wrote quite a few articles.
I had no idea why I gave up the previous blog which was working perfectly fine.I gave up blogging because of the pressure of job-hunting and other family-related duties. I just couldn’t dedicate time for my hobbies anymore :(
Where we go from this point
And finally, we are at #5, which is this one running on Hugo again. I feel like I have matured in terms of my understanding of technology and philosophy regarding openness and privacy.
Just like last time, I will mostly be writing about technology, Linux, open-source, FOSS (and maybe some philosophy?). I really hope I stick to this one but I should not feel pressured.
Let’s go!
Note
Certain aspects of this website is currently broken because I’m learning/relearning Hugo from scratch. I’ll consider the site fixed when I’m done with the following
- About page which is properly linked
- A profile photo
- A working Search bar
- Tagged posts
- Custom footer
I’m writing it here for transparency and accountability
